The Centre of Care for Traditional Culture

On 11 July 2003 the government debated and, through Resolution Nr. 571, approved The Concept of Improved Care for Traditional Folk Culture. The main goal of this Resolution was to identify and record manifestations of traditional folk culture the main guarantor of the project being the National Institute of Folk Culture in Strážnice. In individual regions, selected regional centres united under the name Centre of Care for Traditional Folk Culture were made responsible for the fulfillment of this Resolution. Slovácké Museum in Uherské Hradiště was authorized as a centre for Zlín region and since 2004 the Centre of Care for Traditional Culture has been a coordinator of the project in Zlín region.

The project is supposed to describe and document systematically existing folk culture in the whole of the Czech Republic, make it accessible for the wide public and safeguard it for future generations. Gradually, experts will focus on particular aspects of cultural heritage namely handicraft, agriculture, folk architecture, dance, music and verbal folklore, customs and traditions, folk religiosity and others. Collected data will become groundwork for a more effective preservation of the elements of folk culture so they can be kept alive and passed on to next generations. The concept of improved care about traditional folk culture and the work of the Centres of Care for Traditional Folk Culture seek to help prove our own cultural identity through the rich variety of live and preserved expressions of folk culture.
